Boyd Haley (kind of) Responds to the FDA Warning on OSR#1

The Los Angeles Times reports that Boyd Haley has responded to the US Food and Drug Administration’s warning about his OSR#1 product indirectly, by writing an editorial in a local newspaper.  The FDA has called his product an unapproved new drug and has indicated that it is misleading to market OSR#1 as a dietary supplement.

In an op-ed published Monday in the Lexington Herald-Leader, Haley wrote that “[i]t might be that the chemical name we placed on the label has confused this issue” and that his product was developed through a combination of naturally occurring substances.  According to the Times, a number of experts have indicated that the Haley’s explanation defies elementary principles of chemistry.

The FDA is still awaiting Haley’s official response to the June 17 letter which detailed several violations of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

Predictably, J.B. Handley, a founder of the “autism recovery” group Generation Rescue, has kept the blinders on to support Haley.  “We don’t trust the FDA or the CDC. We don’t trust you. We don’t trust most doctors. We only trust each other,” Handley said.

FDA Says OSR#1 is Toxic, Not a Dietary Supplement

According to an article in The Chicago Tribune, The FDA has determined that OSR#1, a product favored by many in the “autism recovery” movement, is toxic and unsafe for human consumption.  

 Boyd Haley, a retired chemist, has been marketing the product parents as a dietary supplement, based on the unproven and controversial idea that chelation can reverse the effects of autism.  Apparently, the side effects of Mr. Haley’s product include  “soiling of the anogenital area, alopecia (hair loss) on the lower trunk, back and legs, a dark substance on lower trunk and anogenital area, abnormalities of the pancreas” and a rapid increase in normal cells contained in the lymph nodes.”

This guy has been encouraging parents to have their kids ingest a “food” which is actually a toxic substance  in order  to get toxins out of their system.
